Cody Rhodes has revealed how a group of WWE officials gifted him a monumental watch after his victory over Roman Reigns.
Rhodes made WWE history by defeating Reigns, ending a reign that lasted more than 1,300 days in a match that featured several WWE stars and legends getting involved in the match.
He was emotional after the match as his family joined him in the ring to celebrate, as well as other WWE stars, who stood by him after becoming the new WWE Champion.
Much of the story behind Rhodes’ attempt to win the title was due to the fact that his late father Dusty Rhodes had never won the title, and Cody paid tribute to his father after the match, both in the ring and afterwards.
At the post-event press conference, Rhodes found it difficult to remain calm while explaining a gift he received from WWE officials related to his father.

Rhodes defeated Reigns (right) to become the new WWE Champion, ending his opponent’s reign of just under four years.
He explained how the gift he received related to his late father, Dusty (pictured), who passed away in 2015.
“I came back and Bruce Pritchard, Triple H and Nick Khan gave me this. It’s the same watch my dad had. That he pawned so I could go to acting school.
“The level of investment and responsibility that the company just put in my hands, I hope I can pay it forward, pay it back 100 times more.”
Rhodes cut an emotional figure when talking about his father, who played an important role in his WWE career.
Rhodes somewhat set out to continue his father’s legacy when he passed away in 2015, adopting ‘The American Nightmare’ as a moniker as a spin-off of Dusty’s ‘American Dream’.
When he returned to WWE two years ago, he made it clear that his goal was to win the WWE Title, a feat Dusty failed to accomplish in his career.
Last year he came up short against the titleholder Reigns, although this year he bested his rival to win the belt.
Rhodes had made it clear since returning to WWE two years ago that he wanted to win the title.
WWE boss Triple H (left) and his colleague Nick Khan (right) were involved in the process of obtaining the gift.
Rhodes broke down in tears while speaking about his father’s legacy at the post-event press conference.
WWE boss Triple H also took the microphone at the press conference and was asked about the meaning of the watch.
After joking that Rhodes was a ‘puppet’, he explained how the gift came about and how it was due to the size of the occasion.
“We wanted to do something special for him,” he said. ‘It’s a special night for him. The plot thing, this ends the story, it’s not something manufactured, it’s real.
‘Bruce was very close to Dusty, I was very close to Dusty. I know what this means to Cody, what this business means to him. He is the right human being.
‘It was Nick’s idea. He had this amazing idea. Bruce was with us for a while. I thought he was cool, Bruce went and found this watch that was exactly the same one that Dusty had and we just wanted to give him something that would somehow commemorate that his dad was here when this happened, because she was.
