Travis Kelce’s acting debut in Ryan Murphy’s new FX horror series Grotesquerie paid tribute to his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
After weeks of speculation that the show’s third episode paid homage to the 34-year-old pop star’s 2017 hit Getaway Car, Murphy, 58, confirmed the popular Swiftie theory.
Referring to the scene in which the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, and Niecy Nash-Betts try to flee the hospital together in a dream sequence, the prolific producer said THR that the couple’s ‘red getaway car’ is ‘a little nod to Taylor Swift.’
As for whether Swift could appear in the second season of Grotesquerie or another of Murphy’s projects, the Glee creator revealed that he’s “talked to Taylor’s people about a number of things over the years.”
“What I will say is that I think she’s great and if she ever has the time to do it, she would do it in a heartbeat,” he praised. “I think she’s one of the greats. I was too embarrassed to talk to Travis about her. But he’s very sweet and respectful.

Murphy went on to say: ‘They are a pop culture phenomenon. “It’s a very interesting dynamic the way they have captured the world’s imagination.”
Murphy also praised Kelce for his ability to “roll up his sleeves” and always be prepared for the set.
In Grotesquerie, Kelce plays Ed Lachlan, a recovering drug addict who works as a nurse and is a potential love interest for Nash-Betts’ character, Detective Lois Tryon.
Ed meets Lois for the first time at the hospital where her husband was in a coma. After finding her sitting on a bench and smoking a cigarette, Ed began talking sweetly to the detective before she pulled out a flask and began drinking. He warned her not to get into his car, but she proceeded to drive after drinking.
In the next scene, Lois crashes her car into a pole and wakes up in the hospital with Ed as a nurse. She convinces him to escape from the hospital against his doctor’s orders, and he agrees.
In a romantic and flirty sequence, Ed and Lois flee the scene holding hands before escaping in their red convertible.
The scene sparked a theory on social media that Lois and Ed’s getaway car was a subtle nod to one of Swift’s fan-favorite songs.
In response to a clip of the scene posted on X, formerly known as social media, one fan wrote: “OMG, it’s the getaway car!”

‘Ha ha ha. “Taylor must be laughing now,” another Swiftie added, referring to the pop icon’s love of Easter eggs, while another chimed in and posted: “Not the Taylor Swift reference.”
Others reacted to the link by sharing famous lyrics from the song: one wrote the first line: “Nothing good begins in a getaway car,” while another added a clip from the bridge that read: “They were jet set, Bonnie and Clyde.”
Another fan took to TikTok to highlight the connection, writing over a clip from the episode: ‘Does this look familiar Swifties?!’
‘This can’t be a coincidence!’ the fan wrote in the caption of the post.

Meanwhile, other eagle-eyed fans recognized that the car looked a lot like the convertible that Kelce and Swift drove away from Arrowhead in after she attended her first Chiefs game.
“Oh she looks familiar except the passenger was a blonde with her hands in the air lol,” one social media user posted.
The couple have recently been spotted on a series of date nights in New York City after surviving their alleged breakup date from a ‘contract’ leaked several weeks ago.
The contract is widely believed to be fake, and Kelce’s team was quick to call it “completely false and made up,” but claimed that the duo were set to announce their split on September 28.
Many fans took to social media to claim that Kelce’s scene was a nod to Swift’s 2017 song.

The breakup date stipulated in the supposed contract has now passed without much fanfare, and without news of a breakup.
Swift has since been seen at some of Kelce’s games and has proven that their romance is still going strong despite the divided speculation.
Late September also marked one year since the couple confirmed and shared their highly publicized romance with the world when Swift attended one of their soccer games for the first time on September 24, 2023.

The couple (pictured kissing after their Super Bowl win in February) recently celebrated their one-year anniversary.
After the AFC title game last year, Swift came out onto the field to congratulate the tight end with a kiss.
She was also seen attending the Super Bowl game earlier this year to cheer him on between her Eras Tour concerts in Asia.
