This is the moment a “selfish” drink-driver in Wiltshire lost control of his car and drove into oncoming traffic with two children on board.

Dashcam footage from the car he collided with head-on shows Simon Wright, from Malmesbury, losing control of his Audi RS4.

The 43-year-old slid down the B4042 in his £70,000 engine after overtaking two cars as he exited a roundabout at speed.

At the time, he was just a seven-minute drive from his home in Parklands and suffered multiple injuries, as did his front passenger.

Fortunately, the two children in the back of the Audi were treated for shock but were not injured.

Emergency services were called to the scene where Wright failed a breathalyzer test.

He was given a two-year driving ban, an 18-month suspended prison sentence and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and drink driving at Swindon Crown Court on July 26.

He must also pay compensation of £2,000 and a surcharge of £187.

Constable Luke Hobbs, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘This level of drink driving, particularly, is totally unacceptable on our roads and poses a significant danger to other road users.

‘The fact that there were also small children in the vehicle at the time is unimaginable.

‘Dangerous and drink driving are two of the five most likely fatal offences to cause serious harm or death on our roads and we are 100 per cent dedicated to pursuing those who commit these offences to keep our roads safe.

“I am pleased that as a result of his selfish and senseless actions, Wright has been banned from our roads.”
