From poor communication to money issues, there are many reasons why couples decide to divorce.

Now, a study has revealed another factor that could increase the likelihood of your marriage ending.

And the results might alarm you if your husband works in a busy office.

Researchers at the Vienna University of Economics and Business say that men who work with many women are more likely to get divorced.

“Gender-balanced workplaces reduce the cost of extramarital searches and allow married individuals to meet alternative partners, which increases the likelihood of divorce,” the researchers wrote in their study.

In the UK, around 42 per cent of marriages end in divorce, with the most common reason being “unreasonable behaviour”.

“The term unreasonable behavior in a divorce is used to describe your spouse acting in such a way that you cannot reasonably be expected to continue living with him or her,” The Law Superstore explained.

However, until now there has been little research on the impact of office environment and divorce.

In their study, the researchers analyzed data from 355,100 children born in Austria between 1976 and 1987.

About 13.5 percent of these children experienced their parents’ divorce before they turned 18.

At the time of the divorce, the researchers also looked at the characteristics of the participants’ parents.

“Divorced fathers tend to work in larger firms and in firms with a lower proportion of blue-collar workers, and in firms with a higher proportion of female workers across all age groups,” they wrote in the study.

Unfortunately, researchers found that parental divorce, as a result, has a negative effect on children’s long-term outcomes.

Children whose parents had divorced had lower levels of educational attainment, poorer labor market outcomes, and were more likely to die prematurely.

Meanwhile, girls were more likely to have children at an early age (especially in their teens).

Researchers hope the findings will highlight the profound – and often damaging – impact of parental divorce on children’s futures.

“Our results show that focusing on children’s well-being in the event of divorce should be more than just empty rhetoric, because the consequences for them are felt throughout their lives,” said Dr. Martin Halla, co-author of the study.
