Carly Pearce is fed up with people asking her about her heartbreak and her ex-husband, especially since she’s been divorced for four years.
The country star, 34, split from Michael Ray, 36, in June 2020, but says her fans still can’t help but speculate about what or who her songs are about.
The Grammy winner shared the information after a fan asked her what the biggest public misconception about her was during a recent social media Q&A.
The singer replied: “I haven’t gotten over my divorce.”
She added that many of her listeners seemed to assume she was still writing about her divorce in the new songs she was releasing, but it was no longer something she thought about.
Carly Pearce is fed up with people asking her about her heartbreak, especially since she’s been divorced for four years.
“It’s been really hard to feel like every song I write from that very public situation is tied to that relationship, when in reality that couldn’t be further from the truth,” she said.
The singer added: “Since then I’ve had relationships that inspire me and even stories that are important to me in general.”
Carly, who was born in Taylor Mill, Kentucky, became a household name in 2017 with her song Every Little Thing.
Her latest hits deal with heartbreak and breakups, with songs like I Hope You’re Happy Now, Next Girl and Never Wanted To Be That Girl.
She married Michael Ray on October 6, 2019 in Nashville on a farm surrounded by 100 friends and family.
The lovebirds gushed about each other shortly after tying the knot in an interview with People.
“Knowing without a doubt that I didn’t settle for anything less than the person I believe was made for me is something I’m grateful for,” Carly said after her wedding.
“No matter what happens, she’s on my side. No matter what happens, she’s on my side. I tell her that she will never face anything alone. There will never be anything in life that she can’t control and that I will be by her side,” Michael said.

Carly and her boyfriend Riley King split after two years of dating in 2023
Carly was married to Michael for eight months before filing for divorce in 2020.
At the time, her reps told People magazine: “It was a difficult decision. It wasn’t something she wanted to have to do. It wasn’t a decision she made during quarantine, it was a last resort.”
In November 2020, Carly told People why she thought her marriage had failed.
The artist hinted that there was a trust issue and that Michael was not up to her efforts: “I did everything I knew how to do. It takes two people to work on something. When you love someone, you trust them.”
She said she “realized very quickly that we weren’t meant to be together,” but didn’t call it a mistake.
Despite her heartbreak, Carly said she still believed in love and hoped to marry her man again one day.
“I’m hopeful. I want to have someone. I want to get married. I want to have companionship. I want to have a family. I want all of those things. I think having a divorce as part of your story is tough. It’s a tough reality,” she told People.
“I’ve had a hard time accepting it and not feeling ashamed or defined by it. But I actually know that’s not the case. I’ve come to a point where I just accept that everyone has a path, and this is mine, and the right person will be able to love me through it.”
In June 2023, Carly and her boyfriend Riley King split after dating for two years.
The couple met through mutual friends and went public with their romance a year after they began dating.
The country singer and former baseball player’s split was reportedly due to “trust issues” on her part, Page Six reported.
Late last year, Carly confirmed that she was dating her drummer, BC Taylor.
