Sydney Roosters NRL coach Trent Robinson and his wife have been airlifted to hospital following a gas bottle explosion.

It is understood the Prime Minister’s three coaches and his wife Sandra were preparing dinner at a property in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley on Monday night when a barbecue gas bottle exploded. nine news reported.

The couple suffered burns on their arms and were immediately bathed in cold water.

Ambulances and the Westpac rescue helicopter attended the property, which is understood to be owned by former ARL manager John Quayle.

Westpac’s intensive care medical team airlifted the couple to John Hunter Hospital.

Robinson and his wife spent two nights in the hospital and have since been released.

The couple is now recovering at home.

The Sydney Roosters have yet to comment on the matter.

Robinson has been in charge of the first grade team at Bondi since 2013, leading the founding club to three premierships.
