Michael Kelcourse died at the age of 71 on Tuesday in Sarasota, Florida, due to “complications” from a stroke and spinal cord injury.
He is known for appearing on the Bravo reality series Southern Charm, but retired from the show after suffering an acute spinal cord stroke in 2021 after the seventh season.
Kelcourse had been Patricia Altschul’s butler for a total of 18 years before moving to an assisted living facility in the state of Florida.
Earlier this month, Michael had suffered a “debilitating” second stroke which left him partially paralyzed on his “right side”.
A close friend of Patricia and Michael, Luzanne Otte, confirmed his death in a statement on her Caring Bridge website and wrote: “It is with great sadness that Michael Kelcourse died on October 22 in Sarasota, Florida.”

He added that his death was due to “complications related to a spinal cord injury and a stroke.”
Otte added that after his 2021 stroke, Michael “remained extraordinarily kind in the face of the cruel twist of fate.”
‘As hope for recovery waned here, Michael focused on the blessings there. A deep inspiration to all who crossed his path.’
“Despite the relatively constant disappointment of an endless stream of medical complications related to a spinal cord injury, the only time I saw Michael in low spirits was when he began receiving palliative care in June.”
Luzanne added that the symptoms of osteomyelitis “had taken their toll and prepared Michael to accept death on his next great adventure.”
She revealed that before his death, Kelcourse had ordered caviar, adding that both she and Patricia had “exchanged happy memories of Michael.”
Otte humorously continued: ‘(AKA “the most stable relationship I’ve ever had”, joking that her marriage lasted 15 years and she spent 18 years with Michael.) Apparently, Pat also received a caviar SOS. Bless.’
Michael, a dog fanatic, was also visited by a service dog before his death, and Patricia’s own pug was revealed to have passed away just days before Kelcourse.

Almost ten days before his death, Kelcourse had celebrated his 71st birthday on 13 October.
Otte sent his thanks to his fans, adding: “What greater gift than to die knowing that you are loved and that your life will be remembered.”
‘In the coming weeks, Pat and other loved ones will share precious memories of Michael on social media. Please consider leaving your own happy memory or deepest condolences for Michael’s family.
