Socceroos coach Graham Arnold has explained why he believes the Rabbitohs are struggling this season in the NRL, and sacked coach Jason Demetriou has to shoulder much of the blame.
Arnold, 63, who guided Australia to the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has built his envied reputation on hard work and his national teams always sticking together.
Camaraderie is key, a characteristic Arnold cannot see in spades in South Sydney.
“When you see those from the South play, they don’t seem interested. They are disunited and not aligned. In my opinion, not all Souths play as one and that can be cultural,” Arnold said. News Corporation.
“They are not on the same page and that will be the challenge for the new Rabbitohs coach – making sure the communication with the players is there.

Arnold believes Wayne Bennett’s famous man-management skills are exactly what the Rabbitohs need, as the super-coach (pictured) considers a return to the club.

“It’s about human management, camaraderie, brotherhood, family, doing it for each other, everyone being on the same page, discipline, working hard and being on time.”
Arnold pointed out to the Panthers where the Rabbitohs should aim to be.
Ivan Cleary’s all-conquering side have been devastated by the salary cap in recent years, but their ‘next man up’ mentality sees them in line for a fourth consecutive premiership in 2024.
Arnold also stated that he “loves the Rabbitohs” and would entertain working with the beleaguered NRL club if approached.
He previously worked with players such as Sea Eagles great Jamie Lyon and Wests Tigers legend Benji Marshall at the peak of their careers when it came to goal-scoring.
Meanwhile, Wayne Bennett is set to be South Sydney’s head coach in 2025, with reports the “interested” supercoach will soon sign a three-year deal.
In his previous spell with the club, Bennett guided the Rabbitohs to the Grand Final in 2021, as well as two preliminary finals.
It also had much-maligned stars, Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker, firing on all cylinders.
