Football legend Fernando Torres made a rare surprise appearance at the NFL Draft, announcing a sixth-round pick for the Miami Dolphins.
Torres appeared on screen with the Metropolitan Stadium in the background, home of Atlético de Madrid, where he currently trains.
The former Chelsea and Liverpool striker began speaking in Spanish to begin his appearance, but switched back to English to announce the choice.
Torres announced former Virginia wide receiver Malik Washington as the No. 194 overall pick.
The NFL did not announce exactly why Torres was chosen to read the pick, or how the Dolphins connected with the Spaniard.

Torres was one of the best forwards in the world for several years with Liverpool and Chelsea
The NFL will play its first regular season game from Spain next year.
However, the match will take place at the home of Atlético de Madrid’s city rival Real Madrid, the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
While Torres was reading the pick, the Atlético de Madrid senior team was playing in the background against Athletic Bilbao.
Torres retired from football in 2019 as a World Cup champion. He also won the UEFA Champions League in 2012 with Chelsea.
A late goal by Torres in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona helped Chelsea advance to the final and ultimately win the tournament.
