‘I’m told there is a seven-fold increase in men seeking advice about prostate cancer and Chris’s story is likely to save countless lives. This leaves me breathless.

‘Life is wonderful. We are excited about the future. We have many more adventures planned…. And I’m so lucky to be able to do it all with (Chris Hoy), the most amazing person I’ve ever met.

“Watching it on the BBC at the weekend was like attending a masterclass in strength of character, dignity and humility. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: He really is my real-life superhero.”

Hoy’s legacy and impact on British sport cannot be underestimated, having spearheaded Team GB’s velodrome dominance between 2008 and 2016.

Indeed, with the next Commonwealth Games due to be held in Glasgow in his home country of Scotland, there have been increasing calls to name the competition after Hoy following his reveal.

Hoy’s initial cancer diagnosis came earlier this year, after visiting a doctor in late 2023 after complaining of shoulder pain.

Further scan revealed that the primary cancer was in the prostate, had spread to the bones and is now untreatable but can be delayed by medical measures.

Sarra, herself, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis just weeks after the Olympian’s initial cancer diagnosis.

Sarra visited her GP after experiencing a strange tingling sensation on her face and tongue.

Doctors then informed him that he was suffering from an “aggressive” form of MS, a degenerative disease for which there is no cure.

Hoy was knighted in 2008 when he was still an active athlete and, despite his condition, has stated that he plans to “be here for many, many more years” for his wife, Sarra, and their two children.
