A seriously ill Colorado man is stuck in a hospital in Denmark after contracting a super virus while vacationing on a European cruise, according to his family.
Guy Matlock, 64, fell seriously ill while celebrating his 37th wedding anniversary on a cruise in northern Europe last month with his wife Adrien.
His daughter Moriah told him KDVR That, six days into the 14-day cruise, Guy began experiencing flu-like symptoms that quickly escalated into a more serious medical emergency.
“They got to the port as soon as possible… They found out he had swine flu, pneumonia and sepsis, which essentially turned into a super virus inside his body and started attacking his major organs,” Moriah said of the ordeal.

Guy went into cardiac arrest and his lungs failed, leaving him with brain damage in a Copenhagen hospital, according to his family.
He is currently breathing with the help of a ventilator and is not fully conscious, and his family is raising funds to fly him back to the US.
Guy’s children, who like their parents had never left the country before, flew to Denmark a week after his medical emergency to be with him.
“It’s very isolating to be in a different country, a country where you don’t know any of the language and there are so many different social changes,” Moriah said.
“His brain just doesn’t get enough stimulation from Danish society, because he just hears different languages and isn’t able to calculate.”

Guy’s wife, Adrien, remains in Copenhagen a month after he fell ill, while his children were forced to return to their home in Englewood, Colorado.
“No one can explain the pain it can bring to see someone so strong in such a not-so-strong state,” Moriah added.
“Someone who has been everything you ever needed in your life and is incapacitated so he can’t even breathe on his own.”
