In the days following Rory McIlroy’s shocking separation from his wife Erica Stoll, his neighbors in the Florida golf community where they live are shocked by the divorce.
McIlroy filed for divorce from Stoll on Monday, three days before the start of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
The separation was confirmed on Tuesday by McIlroy’s representatives and hours later he was seen practicing for the big tournament.
On Wednesday, Stoll was seen publicly for the first time since the news broke in Florida without a wedding ring on her finger.
Stoll is believed to still live in the couple’s luxurious mansion in Jupiter, Florida, with their three-year-old daughter, Poppy Kennedy. And her neighbors are trying to figure out where things went wrong. via PEOPLE.
McIlroy and Stoll married in 2017 after meeting in 2012 and were originally friends.

“Rory is down to earth for such a big star,” a source told PEOPLE. “However, he is very reserved and can be nice to be around, but he does NOT love being the center of attention.”
McIlroy and Stoll live within the fertile, gated golf community of Bear’s Club, where PEOPLE had another source tell them their neighbors “are talking about this and wondering what happened.”
McIlroy, 35, keeps a low profile in his private life, “so private that there hasn’t been much speculation about his family life,” PEOPLE added. “We wonder what happened.”
The couple met in 2012, when McIlroy was still dating tennis star Caroline Wozniacki. Months after McIlroy ended her relationship with Wozniacki, he and Stoll were a couple.
Stoll and McIlroy, now 36, got engaged in 2015 and married in 2017.
Halfway through the PGA Championship, McIlroy is five under par, seven shots behind leader Xander Schauffele.
Stoll has largely stayed out of the public eye despite dating one of the most famous golfers on the planet. Her Instagram has been set to private since before the divorce was filed.
Now, Stoll has become the center of attention as he splits from McIlroy.
