Raygun has returned home to Australia with a new accolade under her belt after being given a controversial new ranking by the World Dance Sport Federation following the Paris Olympics.
Rachael Gunn made headlines worldwide for her appearance under the alias ‘Raygun’ in Paris and was mercilessly mocked in all media outlets for her performance at the Place de la Concorde.
Her routine includes kangaroo hops, snake-like slithering on the floor and a strange wardrobe choice, as Raygun ditches streetwear and opts for an Australian tracksuit.
Raygun failed to score a single competition point in three battles against Nicka, Sya ‘Syssy’ Dembele and Logan ‘Logistx’ Edra.
However, that hasn’t stopped the World Dance Sport Federation from elevating Raygun to world number 1 in its latest rankings.
She was named the world’s top b-girl in the September rankings, while Olympic medallists Ami ‘Ami’ Yuasa, Dominika ‘Nicka’ Banevic and Liu ‘671’ Qingyi were all excluded from the list.
And Olympic spectators were left stunned by the decision, after Ray finished 16th at the Paris Games, ahead of only one disqualified runner.
“That’s a good example of how things work, I don’t think he’s number 1 in the world, he’s more in the bottom 1%,” one person posted.
“What an insult to the other breakers who are clearly better than her,” added another.
“Unfortunately she thinks she’s a winner, as does the Australian Olympic Committee, but it’s the judges who don’t understand her style,” another posted.

Several Australians also criticised the WDSF, after the organisation that primarily oversees ballroom dancing was given the responsibility of being the governing body for breaking ahead of the Paris Olympics.
“Probably because the WDSF had nothing to do with breaking until they realised ballroom dancing wasn’t going to have an audience at the Olympics so they created their own breaking competition. Blame them for this whole mess, not Raygun,” fumed one Australian.
“All this proves is that WDSF is a joke and does not represent real breakdancing,” another posted.
“That’s ridiculous. Who is DanceSport to make that decision anyway? Breakdancing is not their specialty,” added another.

The breakdancer was also photographed sharing a meal with 80s pop icon Boy George.
Since rocketing to stardom with her rival act, Raygun has been linked to reality shows such as Channel 10’s I’m a Celebrity and rubbed shoulders with billionaire Richard Branson and 80s pop icon Boy George.
But in her only interview in Australia since the Olympics, she told supporters it could be a while before she can compete again.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to compete for a while. I don’t want to be the center of attention, to compete,” she said on The Project.
“It’s been nice. It’s been quite a process trying to get back into dancing. It’s been tough actually. You know, it was my medicine and then it became my source of stress.
“I’m really happy that it’s my medicine again. I can finally feel free again. I’m really looking forward to getting back to racing, but no, I don’t think I’ll be able to compete for a while.”
