A Queensland man has been charged after allegedly inappropriately filming women and girls in a shopping centre using a camera attached to the end of his walking stick.

Jeffrey Norman Young, 56, allegedly filmed a 12-year-old girl at a shopping centre in Mount Ommaney on January 6.

The girl’s family reported the incident to police and Young was arrested after being found at the mall on January 11.

Police confiscated the man’s camera, which allegedly contained several indecent videos and photographs of women taken in public areas of the mall without their consent.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at a private residence in Jamboree Heights, where police allegedly located electronic storage devices containing similar images and videos.

Young was initially charged with three counts of observations or recordings in breach of privacy, one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16 (taking photographs) and one count of attempted observations or recordings in breach of privacy.

He appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on 28 February, where he was remanded in police custody.
