A man was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds and a body was found in a creek after an overnight shooting.

Police were called to a home on Antwerp Street in Auburn, in Sydney’s west, shortly before 10pm on Tuesday after receiving reports of a domestic incident.

Officers were told that a man known to the occupants had attempted to force entry before firing one shot into the home and fleeing before officers arrived.

No one inside the house was injured.

Officers were called to nearby Mona Street after receiving reports that a 55-year-old man had been confronted by an unknown assailant.

The gunman had fired at his car, hitting him in the neck.

The man was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition while police established a second crime scene on Mona Street.

During a search of the area, a body was located in Duck Creek shortly after 2.15am.

A firearm was also found and seized as evidence.

“While the investigation is ongoing, the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“There is no ongoing risk to the public.”

Police believe the shooting on Amberes Street and the incident on Mona Street are linked and have issued a public appeal for information.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Auburn Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
