A scenic swimming spot in the Northern Territory is closed until further notice after a freshwater crocodile was spotted in the area.
The two-metre beast was spotted at Litchfield National Park’s Florence Falls waterhole on Sunday and NT Parks and Wildlife raised the alarm on Monday. Ironically, it was also World Crocodile Day.
The rookie was identified and confirmed by floodlights overnight, prompting a rush of park rangers to try to eliminate him.
NT Parks and Wildlife has put up warning signs in the area and the pools will reopen “as soon as practical”.
Australians are encouraged to watch out for crocodiles before entering any swimming area in the Top End.

Ironically, the announcement was made by NT Parks and Wildlife on World Crocodile Day, June 17.
An NT Parks and Wildlife spokesperson said visitors will not be able to swim in the waterhole until the crocodile has been removed.
“Parks and Wildlife have posted warning signs in the immediate area,” the spokesperson said. New Testament News.

Florence Falls is popular with visitors for its beautiful natural beauty and bush-surrounded waterhole.
Saltwater crocodiles tend to be more aggressive and larger than freshwater crocodiles, but swimming is still not permitted after sighting a crocodile.
