A mother of the groom has come under fire after making an ‘unforgivable’ wedding faux pas.

One viral image showed a wedding in which the groom’s mother appeared in a dress “even whiter than the bride’s,” complete with a cape train, a cream-colored hat and a corsage.

Wedding outfits are a hot topic of debate, with many guests struggling to get the dress code right, but it is generally understood that the color white is reserved for the bride.

The mother’s behavior was criticized by thousands of people in a wedding-shaming Facebook group, while others said she may have had permission for the look beforehand.

“It really makes you wonder what the hell happened to all these mothers-in-law to make them act like their son’s wedding was their own wedding,” one said.

Wedding guests should not wear black either because it is considered morbid. The color red is also prohibited because it supposedly means that you have had relations with the boyfriend..

You should also try not to “upstage the bride” by wearing something that draws too much attention, like a gold dress that caused a guest to be kicked out of her friend’s wedding.

Many claimed that the older woman’s dress was a clear attempt to upstage the bride, but it is unclear if she had permission to wear the outfit in advance.

“It makes me vomit when I see mothers like that,” said one woman.

A second wrote: ‘The cape, the dress, the headdress… oh my god. It would have been overkill, but it would be fine if it was any other color. I hope to be as patient as this bride one day.

‘I can’t imagine doing this to any woman who decides to marry my son. “Honey, I of all people know how hard it can be to live with him, may the gods old and new bless you for your sacrifice,” another joked.

‘I’m 99 percent sure this was not approved by the bride, since it’s white and the bride’s dress is slightly off-white. And the bride looks perfect!’ she added a fourth.

Some even claimed that someone must have “accidentally” spilled a glass of red wine on the mother’s dress.

‘There’s no way I should have made it to the cinema without someone spilling (wine). That poor girl,’ one woman said.
