Martin Short has been announced as the next mayor of Funner, California, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Only Murder In The Building star is the fourth mayor to preside over the city, joining celebrities such as Rob Riggle, David Hasselhoff and Jane Lynch who previously served as city bosses.
In a statement obtained by the outlet, Short, 74, said, “As the elected mayor of Funner, I promise to be more than just a spokesperson dressed in head-to-toe purple, but the best mayor in the world.” The whole damn state.
“My goal is to make every part of the already fun Harrah’s Resort SoCal even more fun, and I can’t wait to share my plans with all of my constituents in just six short weeks.”

Short’s term will last from 2024 to 2026 and the city of Funner recently teased the identity of its next mayor on its website, writing: “With just weeks left until our new mayor’s inauguration, we promise that this reign It will be “nothing less than fun.”‘

His inauguration ceremony will take place on May 13.

He will also take the oath swearing to “protect fun, good times, laughter out loud, and positive vibes from negative influences determined to turn a smile upside down,” according to THR.
Hasselhoff was the first mayor to serve the city and Riggle followed him in 2019.
In 2022, actress Jane Lynch was named the next mayor of Funner.
