Chelsea star Marc Cucrella has blatantly criticized fellow superstar Cole Palmer for his appearance but believes the England international is destined to “be among the best”.
Palmer has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2024-25 Premier League season with six goals and five assists in Chelsea’s first seven games.
Four of those goals came in a dazzling performance against Brighton on September 28, which the Blues won 4-2.
Despite the 22-year-old’s winning performances for Enzo Maresca’s side, Cucurella believes Palmer has one glaring flaw.
“If you see him without his uniform, you would never in your life say he was a soccer player, but on the field… he shoots and it doesn’t look like he’s hitting hard, but he scores them all,” Cucurella said. .
Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella blatantly took aim at fellow superstar Cole Palmer
Cucurella believed that Palmer does not look like a footballer and felt his hair needed improvement.
However, the Spaniard praised Palmer and believes he can become “among the best”
‘He is very different. I don’t know how to explain it. He is special. We are very lucky to have him. We’re very lucky that he didn’t play much in the Euro Cup because he came in and almost ruined the situation for us.
“If he keeps this up, he’ll be among the best. He doesn’t have much strength in his hair, but if that’s his only problem, then that’s fine.
It would take some effort on Palmer’s part to replicate Cucurella’s curly brunette locks.
But few Chelsea fans will care how Palmer looks as long as he maintains his excellent form for the Blues.
It didn’t take long for Palmer to become a Stamford Bridge hero following his £43million move from Manchester City in 2023.
He scored 22 goals and registered 11 assists in his debut campaign with the club as Chelsea finished sixth in the league under Mauricio Pochettino.
However, the Argentine left the club at the end of the season and former Leicester City manager Maresca was named his replacement.
With the Italian, Chelsea occupies fourth place in the Premier League standings with 14 points.
The 22-year-old has been in sensational form this season for Chelsea under Enzo Maresca.
He has six goals and five assists in seven Premier League games, with many more to come.
Palmer even scored all four of Chelsea’s goals in a 4-2 win over Brighton in September.
Maresca’s team has proven to be one of the greats in the league championship this season, being the second team with the most goals scored with 16, just one behind Manchester City.
The Blues’ only defeat came in their first game against City, but they remained unbeaten in the next six games.
Chelsea also enjoyed wins over Barrow and Genk in the EFL Cup and Europa Conference League respectively.
However, Maresca’s men face a tough task on their return from the international break as they take on league leaders Liverpool at Anfield on October 20.
