A man has died after being hit by a stolen car while two teenage girls have been arrested and police are searching for a group of young people who fled the horrific collision.
A black SUV collided with a silver sedan at the intersection of Warrigal Road and Highbury Road in Burwood, in Melbourne’s central east, at about 7pm on Tuesday.
The driver of the sedan, who has not yet been formally identified, died at the scene.
His car was totaled and ended up in the front yard of a house on the corner.
The stolen SUV continued down the road before crashing into a tree.
Two 15-year-old girls were arrested at the scene and taken to hospital, where they remained in police custody on Wednesday.

Police arrested two teenage girls, both 15, at the scene and are still searching for several men who fled the scene of the fatal crash on foot.
Several men inside the car reportedly fled the scene on foot and police launched a massive manhunt Tuesday night.
The highway patrol, canine squad and law enforcement response team were utilized in the search while Major Collision detectives processed the crash scene.
Police are hoping the two teenagers can provide some information about the men who fled the scene.
