Manchester United fans have criticized Marcus Rashford for his lack of defensive effort following the club’s 4-3 defeat to Chelsea.
After scoring a career-best 30 goals in all competitions last season, the 26-year-old has struggled to replicate that form this season and was ruled out for the visit to Stamford Bridge.
The England international’s lackluster performances on the field have been further marred by incidents outside of football, including a now infamous 12-hour bender in Belfast in January in which he missed a training session before a Premier League match. FA Cup.
In response to growing discontent among the club’s fans, the England international responded to those questioning his commitment to United in an editorial last month.
However, despite assurances that he is giving his all for his boyhood club, some United fans on social media remain unconvinced after a clip from the defeat to Chelsea on Thursday circulated.

In the clip, Rashford can be seen following Blues talisman Cole Palmer after receiving the ball, but does not attempt to challenge him to regain possession.
In a post that has since received over a million views on X, one fan claimed the clip was indicative of Rashford’s overall performance for the club this season.
“He was never a good pressure player and he was never good on the defensive end, he was always a liability on our team when the opponent attacked us!” The fan wrote.
“But he was performing in attack and somehow he was able to make up for his lack of defensive effort, but with these statistics from this season… and him jogging on the field just like he does in training is the reason why I think It’s like that.” It is best for both parties to move forward with each other.
“I know he is a local boy and loves the club… but he needs to wake up or move away from our club, we as fans can no longer defend him, we can no longer support him with In this type of performance we see no desire or passion at all!! !
“That’s shocking for a player who is entering his ‘prime’. Dear @MarcusRashford, wake up or get out of our beloved club!”
Other bitter fans agreed with the assessment, with one writing: “People say ‘typical, just blame Rashford’, it’s not all his fault, but if he had pressed aggressively from the front in the 20 minutes he was on, Chelsea I would have found it significantly.” More difficult to get possession in our field. It’s no coincidence that they took to the game after he came in.
Another fan branded Rashford “lazy” for his follow-up, while another agreed: “Is it just me but Marcus Rashford is really lazy?” In the last two games I’ve seen, he played both times and wasted many opportunities.
Another fan asked why one of Rashford’s teammates hadn’t asked him about his defensive responsibilities: “Why don’t Bruno or other senior players talk to him about this?” Roy Keane would explode if he saw a team-mate making so little effort.
The complaints from United fans come just weeks after similar complaints were shared online following United’s narrow 2-1 win over Luton.
At Kenilworth Road, Hatters midfielder Ross Barkley easily beat Rashford, while the striker made no attempt to make a tackle.
