The anonymous man took to Reddit to reveal that he has been a pet owner for the past seven years, adding that his dog has been his “support” during difficult times.
The post was titled: ‘The dog has slept in my bed for seven years.’
At the beginning of the post, he explained: ‘My girlfriend recently moved here and my dog has been by my side for seven years, since he was 12 weeks old.
The other night he pushed my dog against his chest with both hands and he gets a little angry because he sleeps in the bed. At first it was about the hair, so I washed a bunch of sheets, blankets and pillowcases to have a backup and always have a sheet over the bedding we use.’
Although the man thought that constantly changing the bedding would help, his girlfriend still didn’t agree with his dog sleeping in his bed.
And he added: “I don’t like that she is aggressive with my dog and I dislike it.” She thinks my dog is jealous and doesn’t like her. I think she’s being dramatic and I’ll definitely get rid of her before he does.
‘He has been my healer in life and taught me a lot about anger and how not to be depressed to keep you safe, happy and fed.
‘He’s like my son, brother and best friend. He’s kept me going when I’m down and he’s been my support.’
At the end of the post, the man questioned whether he was wrong for wanting to break up with his girlfriend.
People on the web flooded the comments section because they were fiercely divided over what to do.
He said, ‘Should I give him an ultimatum or just move on to someone who respects my boundaries?’ And am I crazy for putting my dog who has slept next to me for seven years into a new relationship?

Many people claimed that the man was exaggerating.
One person said: ‘I would feel so unlovable and rejected if I were her. I am a great dog lover. Of course you want to be loyal to your best friend.
“But if you’re trying to have a satisfying relationship with a human and you’re actively relegating them to a lower place/priority than your dog, that’s a pretty substantial message that you’re not serious about having a relationship.”
Someone else added: “OP is not ready for a relationship.”
‘OP needs to pull herself together and get her dog out of her bed. So disgusting and strange. “I can’t handle Americans and their dog culture, it’s really weird,” another person said.
Another user wrote: ‘Yes. You’re the idiot. She’s a person, she needs space on the bed and if she has to move her dog out of her way, that’s what happens. Get a life, get a clue, and get a dog bed.
However, other people online agreed with the boyfriend and praised him for standing up for his dog.
“I left so many girls in the past, because of the way they behaved around my dog, it took me a few years but I ended up finding an amazing woman who was amazing with my dog. Don’t settle, that dog deserves better,” he commented a person
Someone else said: ‘No to the idiot and leave her.’
Another person wrote: ‘Get another girlfriend.’ And a king-size bed. Not the idiot.’
