A 20-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a woman and making a false report to police following the Bathurst 1000 staging.
An investigation continues after the man alleged he was assaulted by three other men about 4.15am on October 14 in central western New South Wales.
NSW Ambulance paramedics attended the scene and took the man and woman to Bathurst Hospital.
They were later discharged and traveled interstate.
Following police investigations, the man, aged 20, was given a notice of future court appearance for common assault and false representation, which led to a police investigation.
He will appear at Bathurst Local Court on December 11.
In a shocking twist, New South Wales police will allege in court that the man who claimed to be the victim allegedly assaulted a woman he knew.
He then allegedly made a false report to police.
Bizarre CCTV footage (pictured) has emerged following claims that an engineer from the winning Bathurst 1000 team was attacked after Sunday’s race.
A police investigation has resulted in a 20-year-old man accused of assaulting a woman and making a false report to police.
It follows Erebus driver Brodie Kostecki taking his first victory in the famous race at Mount Panorama on October 13, beating rival Broc Heeney in the six-hour marathon.
But after the race unpleasant allegations emerged, with Kostecki claiming that an engineer on his team had been taken to hospital after being violently assaulted while celebrating the victory.
“It was a pretty good night with the team,” the driver said. “Unfortunately, we had a small incident when one of our crew members went to the hospital and was attacked.”
When pressed for more details about the incident, he said: “Unfortunately, one of our crew members was attacked last night.
“It’s quite disappointing and kind of spoiled the evening.
“We wish Sam all the best and hope he makes a quick recovery, along with his partner.”
Several crew members were celebrating at the Oxford Hotel in Bathurst, New South Wales, after the victory, and the alleged incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. on Monday, according to Sky News.
The man was followed by a woman (right) in the footage, which showed him appearing to collapse on the sidewalk in front of her (top left).
New South Wales Police issued a statement saying they were investigating the reports, but later claimed they were “confident” the man had not been assaulted after viewing CCTV footage.
The strange sight shows a man appearing to walk down William Street in Bathurst, accompanied by a woman.
He appears to hit his head several times with his hands before falling to the pavement in front of the woman..
“Police said that while they are still finalizing their investigation, they remain confident there was no attack,” Seven News reported.
“Police have confirmed that the man is out of hospital.”
The development comes after the Australian Transport and Safety Bureau (ATSB) launched an investigation into a plane that crashed into a wall on the runway while presenting the trophy on Sunday.
After landing, the Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 aircraft appeared to turn left towards a grassy area to the left of the runway, before turning right towards a concrete wall.
After winning at Mount Panorama, Kostecki (left) claimed that a member of the Erebus team had been hospitalized.
As the plane approached the wall, the pilot was seen on Fox Motorsport’s live coverage of the event moving the nose of the craft away from the barrier.
In the process, the tail of the ship rotated and made contact with the wall and some debris was seen falling from the plane.
On Tuesday, the ATSB had deemed the moment a “serious incident”, before revealing that the organization will interview the pilot and publish a report on whether the incident raised any critical safety issues.
