Conservatives are gloating that ‘Project 2025’ will be implemented in the new era of Donald Trump, even though the former president disavowed the agenda during the campaign.
Project 2025 is a hardline conservative manifesto that sets out a government program written by their allies.
Both Trump and JD Vance have shrugged off suggestions that the agenda is on the table for them, but conservatives like Matt Walsh and Steve Bannon reveled in the opportunity to push their political goals after the election.
“Now that the election is over, I think we can finally say that yes, Project 2025 is actually the agenda,” Walsh wrote Wednesday.
Speaking on his podcast, Trump’s freshly released former adviser Steve Bannon greeted Walsh and wholeheartedly agreed.
Conservatives like Steve Bannon are gloating that ‘Project 2025’ will be implemented in the new era of Donald Trump, even though the former president disavowed the agenda during the campaign.
“I think Matt Walsh is a very smart and funny guy. Fabulous. Put that everywhere,’ he said.
He then became much more serious, continuing his accusation that the 2020 election was stolen and saying the perpetrators were going to be eliminated.
“You stole the 2020 election… All this fake stuff is being taken down,” Bannon said.
“Biden is being swept. Kamala Harris is being swept. MSNBC is being devastated. The Department of Justice is being swept. The FBI is being swept. You guys suck, okay? And now you’re going to pay the price for trying to destroy this country.
Bannon was recently released from a four-month prison sentence in Connecticut for contempt of Congress.
He was convicted in 2022 on two counts of defying subpoenas issued by the Congressional investigation into the Jan. 6 attack when Trump supporters ransacked the U.S. Capitol in 2021.
Project 2025 was overseen by the conservative Heritage Foundation, a think tank with Trump administration alumni and allied groups.
It lays out a plan for Trump in office, including proposals he has already adopted, such as strengthening the southern border and decreasing federal involvement in education.
Both Trump and JD Vance have downplayed suggestions that the agenda is on the table for them.
“Now that the election is over, I think we can finally say that yes, Project 2025 is actually the agenda,” Matt Walsh wrote on Wednesday.
But it also calls for banning a widely used abortion pill, abolishing the Department of Homeland Security and eliminating dietary guidelines.
Trump has repeatedly dismissed any suggestion that he will provide a plan for his administration, saying he had “nothing to do with it” during last month’s presidential debate.
The authors of the manifesto include Russ Vought, who was budget director in the Trump White House, and JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, who has ties to Kevin Roberts, who oversaw the entire project.
More recently, Trump transition team leader Howard Lutnick has poured cold water on the idea that it will be used in the White House.
Lutnick also repudiated Project 2025, the document produced by a group of former Trump administration figures that the Trump campaign has repeatedly said does not represent Trump or his campaign.
“The 2025 project is an absolute zero for the Trump-Vance transition,” Lutnick said.
