Emily In Paris heartthrob Lucien Laviscount has revealed that he was originally only scheduled to appear in two episodes of the hit Netflix series.
The 32-year-old actor, who plays Lily Collins’ British love interest Alfie in the drama series, will return this week for the “heartbreaking” fourth instalment.
Speaking to hosts Jordan North, Chris Stark and Kemi Rodgers on Tuesday’s Capital Breakfast, Lucien gave a glimpse of what fans can expect.
Jordan asked: “Did you ever think this show would be as big as it was, because everyone is talking about it? In America, everyone loves it too, right?”
Lucien replied: ‘I came on in the second season, so I kind of had a feeling, but then obviously there were these shows that took a hit because of COVID, and everyone was staying home binge-watching them.’

She added: “It was a bit of a stressful entry into the show. I was only supposed to do two episodes.
‘I remember it was supposed to be my last day, I got a little round of applause, and then Darren Star, the creator, came in and said, “Lucien, you’re not leaving Paris.” And I was like, “What have I done wrong?” I thought I was going to get arrested or something.
“And he said, ‘No, we’re going to keep you here for a while.’ But yeah, the reach is crazy.”
“If it was always planned to be just two episodes, what do you think you did to make them really want to go deeper into this character?” Chris asked.
“I have no idea,” the actor continued. “I just have to thank the acting gods who are out there somewhere in the ether.”
‘I guess just working with Lily too, I think maybe we had a good kind of relationship on set and they wanted to keep me around.’
The third series ended on a chaotic cliffhanger as Emily’s romance with Alfie came to an abrupt end at Gabriel and Camille’s wedding, when Camille realised her husband-to-be had hidden feelings for Emily.
Asked what will happen next, Kemi said, ‘In the trailer, we’ve seen that maybe they’re trying to decide what their relationship is with each other, what’s going on?’

Lucien replied: ‘Gosh, I would say after season three, it definitely ends on, I would say, a cliffhanger as to what happens next.
“The first half of the season is a bit chaotic, like a rollercoaster, for Alfie, trying to figure out what’s what… It’s a bit heartbreaking. Yeah, a bit heartbreaking, to be honest.”

The first part of the hit Netflix series, which will air on August 15, will see Emily try to move away from her double romances and focus on herself.
While wandering through the city of love, Emily runs into many “handsome boys” and realizes that she needs to live “new experiences” after the failed romances of the past seasons.
But as she tries to do her best to accept her new single life, Emily can’t help but reminisce about her relationships with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo).
With her best friend Mindy Chen (Ashley Park) insisting that “no relationship is perfect” and Emily asking for advice, she quickly finds herself racing back into the love triangle to find her soulmate.

In a difficult situation, Emily says: “I really thought I could move on with my relationship, but they both mean a lot to me for different reasons.”
Mindy says, “Don’t overthink it.”
In her work life, Emily once again clashes with her boss Sylvie Grateau (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) when her blog and love life collide with her office work.
The first five shows will be available to watch on August 15 and viewers will have to wait almost a full month for the second installment on September 12.
