A major real estate agency admitted to using AI to generate property listings after a rental house was advertised as being close to two “excellent” schools that did not exist.
LJ Hooker listed a four-bedroom house in Farley, in the Hunter region of New South Wales, on Domain and realestate.com.au on Friday, stating the property was close to “excellent educational institutions”.
“Families will appreciate being within walking distance of several highly-rated schools, making daily commutes easy and stress-free,” the ad said.
He added that nearby schools included ‘Farley Elementary School: Known for its nurturing environment and dedicated staff, this school offers a strong foundation for young students.
It also said it advertised “Farley High School: With a variety of extracurricular programs and activities, this school prepares students for future success.”
However, both are completely fictional.
After being contacted by guardian australiaLJ Hooker Edensor Park branch manager Patrick Huynh admitted that the company had been using ChatGPT.
He said non-existent schools had not been picked up due to “human error”, adding: “All estate agencies use AI nowadays.”
