Keith Urban was spotted filming in New York City on Monday in his first public appearance since his wife Nicole Kidman’s mother died.

The 56-year-old country singer kept a low profile and was spotted chatting with film crews while on the set of a mystery project during his busy workday.

Keith looked relaxed in a black NYU T-shirt and distressed jeans, which he paired with a black and white bomber jacket.

He kept comfortable in a pair of white sneakers and shielded his eyes with square sunglasses as he kept a low profile during his outing.

It is the first time Keith has been seen in public since his mother-in-law sadly passed away at the age of 84 last month.

Keith has been in Australia in recent weeks to support his wife Nicole and for her 2024 music tour, but has since returned to the United States to continue working.

Last month, Nicole, 57, confirmed that her mother Janelle had died just hours before she was set to win Best Actress for her role in Babygirl on the final day of the Venice Film Festival.

In an acceptance speech read by director Halina Reijn, Nicole explained that she had been forced to leave Italy to return to her native Australia amid the sad news.

Nicole has been keeping a low profile since the devastating news and has been spending quality time with her sister Antonia and loved ones in her native Sydney.

She recently shared a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram to her mother Janelle along with several never-before-seen photos of the matriarch.

In her post, the Perfect Couple star thanked her millions of fans and followers for expressing their condolences during the difficult time.

“My sister (Antonia) and I, along with our family, would like to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week,” Nicole wrote in the joint statement.

‘Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we can ever express.

‘Thank you from our entire family for respecting our privacy as we look after each other.’

Keith has also been interviewed in recent days, but he declined to discuss Nicole or Janelle’s deaths as he kept his family life private.

When asked how his family was doing, he said: The times Journalist Ed Potton: “Yeah, all right, man. Thanks for asking.”

He declined to comment further on the story, adding: “I just don’t want to give them a headline about my wife, Ed.”

Nicole was born in Honolulu and raised in Sydney by Janelle and her psychologist father Antony, who died in September 2014.

After spending time in the United States, the Moulin Rouge star and her younger sister Antonia spent much of their childhood in Sydney.

Nicole pursued her passion for acting as a teenager and received support from both of her parents as she rose to worldwide fame.

The two remained closely involved with each other’s careers over the years, with Nicole recently admitting that she often turned to her mother for advice.

In November, the Big Little Lies star revealed how she often asked her mother, Janelle, for advice on her outfits, despite working with many professional stylists.

As a sign of their close bond, Nicole told People: “My mom is still… she’s very involved in what I wear.”

Nicole is known for her bold fashion choices, but she said it was her mother and grandmother who first fostered her love of clothing.

“I love fashion. I’ve always loved fashion,” she said enthusiastically during her speech at the launch of the Planet Omega pop-up store in New York.

“I grew up as a girl with a grandmother who loved fashion and knew how to sew, and my mother did too. They loved pretty clothes, they knew how to make pretty clothes,” she continued.

“I watched them sew, embroider, knit and crochet. And I think when you grow up watching people in your home do that, you love it.”
