Carol Bongiovi, the mother of rocker Jon Bon Jovi, died Tuesday at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, at the age of 83.
Bon Jovi, 62, confirmed his mother’s passing in a statement to People on Tuesday.
“Our mother was a force to be reckoned with, her spirit and positive attitude shaped this family,” the rock stalwart told the outlet in a statement. “She will be greatly missed.”
Carol was scheduled to celebrate her 84th birthday in three days, the outlet reported.
The family will hold a private funeral at Holmdel Funeral Home, People reported.

Carol Bongiovi owned several businesses and also chaired her son’s fan club, the publication said.
Originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, Carol enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959. During her service she met her future husband, John Bongiovi Sr., to whom she was married for 63 years.
The couple later moved to Sayreville, New Jersey and eventually ended up in Holmdel, New Jersey, according to the outlet.
The I’ll Be There for You artist said in November 2020 that his parents gave him and his siblings “the ability to make the dream come true.”
“Even if you weren’t really good at your craft, if you believed you were, you could work at it,” he said. The big problem‘As I got older, I realized that it was a great gift I received from my parents.
The Keep the Faith frontman continued: “They really believed in John Kennedy’s mantra of going to the moon. ‘Yeah, of course you can go to the moon. Just go, Johnny.’ And off I went.”
In the piece, Bon Jovi said his mother and father “were always supportive” of his musical aspirations and had no problem with him performing at shows at age 17, “which, in retrospect, was amazing.”
The long-running star said his parents allowed him to pursue his dream of musical fame from an early age.

He added: ‘I could get home at one or two in the morning, and have to be at school at (8 a.m.)… they would just say, ‘Get to school on time, you know it’s your responsibility, but pursue your dream.’
Carol is survived by her husband John Bongiovi, Sr., three sons (Jon Bon Jovi, Anthony Bongiovi, Matthew Bongiovi), three daughters-in-law (Dorothea Bon Jovi, Nina Yang Bongiovi, Desiree Bongiovi) and eight grandchildren.
