Just after hitting the red carpet at the Unfrosted premiere in Hollywood, Jerry Seinfeld revealed a dream casting he almost pursued: Daniel Day-Lewis.
Seinfeld, 70, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday to talk about the film, which is loosely based on the true story of how Pop Tart was created.
The comedian was asked to clarify a rumor that he had considered casting three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis in the film, who has been retired since 2017.
‘I was going to ask Daniel Day-Lewis. “I wanted him to play: we have a drug trafficker who controls all the sugar in the world, his name is El Sucre,” Seinfeld explained.
“I wanted Daniel Day-Lewis to play him as Daniel Plainview from There Will Be Blood. I wanted him to do that, but I never called him,” Seinfeld admitted.

Kimmel added that Day-Lewis has been retired for several years, although Seinfeld thought this might be the role to convince him to leave.
“If there’s one thing to come out of retirement for, it’s a Pop Tart movie,” Seinfeld said with a laugh.
Kimmel asked, “I wonder if he’s disappointed,” while Seinfeld added, “I hope so.”
The role of El Sucre would eventually be played by Félix Solís (The Rookie: Feds, City on Fire).
Seinfeld makes his directorial debut with Unfrosted, which he also produced and co-wrote with Spike Feresten, Andy Robin and Barry Marder.
The film is loosely based on the true story of the creation of Pop-Tarts, following the corporate battle between Kellogg’s and Post to create the ultimate breakfast pie.
Seinfeld leads an all-star cast that also includes Christian Slater, Hugh Grant, Amy Schumer, Cedric the Entertainer, Melissa McCarthy, James Marsden, Peter Dinklage and Jon Hamm.
Kimmel added that Day-Lewis has been retired for several years, although Seinfeld thought this might be the role to convince him to retire.

Also during his interview with Kimmel, Seinfeld confirmed that there is an extended cut of the now infamous ‘bearded lady’ scene from the Curb Your Enthusiasm finale.
‘I even went back and watched it again to make sure I was seeing what I thought I saw. He had nothing to do with the show at all,” Jimmy said.
“Nothing,” Jerry confirmed of the scene in which Larry asks him to consider a hypothetical situation about dating a beautiful bearded lady who is about to shave.
‘But what you saw there is how Larry and I write comedy. Because I didn’t know what he was going to say. They had that set up. It’s going to suggest a strange idea to you. And you just respond,” Jerry said.
