Jeremy Clarkson, 64, has shared a first look inside his new Cotswolds pub after opening the venue

Jeremy Clarkson has shared a first look inside his new Cotswolds pub after opening the “unfinished” venue for the Euro final amid renovation work on Sunday.

The 64-year-old Grand Tour host, who offered the previous owner a whopping £1million for the bar within minutes of meeting her, was a proper landlord as he poured customers his own Hawkstone beer.

The windmill is set in five acres of Cotswold countryside with stunning views across the Windrush Valley and just ten miles from its Diddy Squad farm where it makes its beer and cider.

In a video Hawkstone shared on Instagram, Jeremy can be seen behind the bar which features copper and chrome detailing as well as sleek heels.

The bar also features cobbled walls, traditional beams and a mezzanine, all decorated with dozens of England flags ahead of their defeat by Spain.

In the clip, after being asked what was going on, Jeremy said: “Well, we accidentally opened our pub before it was finished.”

Surrounded by boxes, he admitted that they did not plan to open their doors for another “four or five weeks.”

Before going on to say: ‘It will be many weeks before we can open it, but by mistake we have a lot of people here.’

The caption read: ‘We got a bit excited last night thinking England might… so we accidentally opened our unfinished pub for the game.’

‘There will be more news about a real opening much later, in the summer or fall.’

It is unclear whether the venue was a private event or open to the public.

This comes after MailOnline revealed Jeremy was so determined to take over his local pub that he offered the landlady almost £1million for it within minutes of meeting her.

He was so keen to close the deal and ensure the project (and a spin-off TV show) could move forward that he made the owner an offer she couldn’t refuse.

Jackie Walker, 79, who opened the pub in 1983, had not even put it up for sale and was shocked when she was told of the TV star’s interest, which turned into a finalised deal within minutes of their meeting.

Jeremy has bought the freehold of the pub and is not tied to a brewery, so he can realise his dream of selling his own beer and produce from his farm on site.

Jackie explained: ‘A film crew had entered the pub and the next thing I knew someone with Clarkson knocked on the door and asked if I was interested in selling.’

She was invited to meet Clarkson at her home in the nearby village of Chadlington, where her Diddly Squat farm is located, to discuss possible terms.

She said: ‘The first thing Jeremy said to me was, ‘I assume you want a lot of money for this.’

He then made her an immediate offer that was much more than she expected and she accepted immediately.

Jackie recalled: “It made me laugh, but that’s Jeremy Clarkson.”

She continued: ‘We had met for a coffee at his house and I was in charge of the maps of the place. He and his partner Lisa were lovely and I really liked them.

“I wasn’t planning on selling the place, but I wasn’t very happy with the way it was run and I’m not getting any younger.”

Renovation work on the pub has already begun and the project will be filmed by the same production company that makes ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ for Amazon Prime.

Jackie, who ran the pub herself for more than 30 years before more recently handing day-to-day management over to tenants while retaining ownership, is now hoping The Windmill’s new celebrity client can revive its fortunes.

“I suppose he will make a TV series about the place. I really hope he can make a big success of it and bring it back to its original state. My husband and I have a lot of fun running it,” she added.

And it revealed the intriguing story behind the building which had previously existed as a farm barn, and its links to a famous society family.

Jackie and her late husband, Alan, opened The Windmill near Burford in West Oxfordshire in 1983 after converting the disused barn on their 750-acre family farm.
