Hawthorn star Jack Ginnivan took to Instagram to post a video of himself smoking a cigarette while attending a college football game in the United States on Saturday.

The 21-year-old forward appears to have traveled to the US for a break during the AFL offseason and was seen walking on the field with many other fans after Tennessee’s game against Alabama on Saturday.

Tennessee had beaten the Alabama Crimson Tide 24-17 at Neyland Stadium and Ginnivan seemed to be rooting for the home team.

The AFL star was seen wearing an orange t-shirt in the clip and was heard saying: “Smoking that ‘Bama pack’, in reference to the Alabama loss.

The football star was also seen smoking a cigarette during the eight-second clip, which has now been removed from his Instagram Story.

The soccer star also posted several other photos and videos from inside the stadium, appearing to marvel at the raucous 101,915-capacity crowd inside the massive stadium.

The clip left some fans divided online with some taking to X (formerly Twitter) to call the clip ’embarrassing.’

However, other fans on social media disagreed, with several stating that people should leave the 21-year-old alone.

He prefers to be himself than pretend to be something he is not. I don’t see him doing anything wrong. Although I’m old school…’ wrote one in X.

‘I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be watching?’ A child enjoying his life? said another.

Ginnivan is one of several stars enjoying a holiday after the end of the AFL season, with many other players flying overseas to enjoy the off-season.

He appears to be enjoying a break in the United States following the end of the 2024 AFL season.

The Hawthorn star was shown smoking a cigarette as he walked around the pitch after the match.

The forward, who joined Hawthorn from Collingwood last season, enjoyed a solid debut season with the Hawks, making 23 appearances and scoring 28 goals.

It comes after he and fellow Hawks star Nick Watson came under fire after they failed to show up for a children’s football training session scheduled after the Hawks’ end-of-season function.

A mother had told 3AW her son was left “heartbroken” after the couple failed to show up to the football clinic.

While Ginnivan and Watson do a lot for the community, it is understood they intend to make it up to the children by running another football clinic for them at a later date.

Hawthorn boss Rob McCartney told Trade Radio: “The important thing is that what has happened after this disappointment is that both the boys – and their management who have been dealing with this – have recognized that in order to try to repair some of disappointment, they will inform those guys that they are going to run another clinic on another date.

The Hawks star also posted a clip in which players appeared to run out of the tunnel before the game.

McCartney also added: “The second part I want to say is that while the fact that they weren’t there is a reflection on that day, what I will say is that both guys give a lot of time to the kids, the fans and the fans during the whole journey. We just need to get the balance right.

‘They may not have given birth to those children that day, but they do do so regularly. “They are two players who really give more than most.”
