As the Republican and Democratic vice presidential candidates prepare to debate next week, JD Vance is making sure he’s familiar with the territory.
The highly anticipated debate between Ohio Republican Senator JD Vance and his Democratic counterpart, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, will give voters their first taste of their divergent points of view.
CBS News will host the showdown Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET in New York City and is expected to be the only debate between the two potential vice presidents, and the final debate of this election cycle.
So to effectively prepare for his showdown with Minnesota’s governor, Vance has enlisted the help of another top politician from the North Star state who has been meticulously studying Walz.
House Leader Tom Emmer, R-Minn., told DailyMail.com how he is helping Vance prepare for his debate next week against Tim Walz. Emmer said he has been practicing for his role for the past month and believes Vance will prevail over the Minnesota governor.

“I’ve spent the last month going over all of his debates,” House Republican Leader Tom Emmer of Minnesota told DailyMail.com of his study of Walz in an exclusive interview. “If I do my job, JD will expose it.”
“I’ve basically spent the last month studying all the things that Tim Walz has done, how he tries to pass himself off as something he’s not.”
“When the senator and I talk, that’s exactly what I’m going to show him and he’ll know how to deal with that fraudulent ‘Minnesota Nice’ personality.”
Emmer, 63, a former hockey coach and member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2015, may have the right mix of Midwestern charm and tenacious political fighter to hone Vance’s ability to take on Walz.
During the election campaign, Vance confirmed that Emmer is helping him prepare for the debate, but did not go into detail about his scheduled practices.
Republican presidential candidate and former President of the United States, Donald Trump, and Republican vice presidential candidate, Senator Vance.
When asked about his participation in the mock debates, Emmer, the Republican whip, told DailyMail.com that he doesn’t want to share too many details of their exact meetings for fear of revealing their strategy, but Emmer said everything went well. and that Vance looks good.
“He’s going to do a great job and I’m honored to play a small role,” he said.
And what separates Vance from Walz is the authenticity of the Ohioan, said Emmer, who knows Walz personally because he worked with him in the House.
‘JD Vance is real. “JD Vance is an honest and direct person; he may not like everything JD says, but he tells you where he is,” the Minnesota lawmaker revealed.
Democratic vice presidential candidate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz delivers a speech at an election campaign event in Superior, Wisconsin, USA, on September 14, 2024.
Vance and Walz are scheduled to debate Tuesday, Oct. 2 on CBS News.
‘Tim Walz is a fraud. Tim Walz is a guy who likes to play nice Midwest and make you think he’s with you. And then guess what? As soon as you give them the keys to the car, they drive it off the cliff.
Emmer continued, telling DailyMail.com that Minnesotans are fed up with their governor.
“He’s not well liked at home because of the things he’s done,” Emmer explained.
‘I mean, he supported free college driver’s licenses and the expansion of Minnesota Care for illegal immigrants. He stood alongside the rioters who burned Minneapolis to the ground and refused to deploy the national guard until it was too late.
Emmer said Walz has shown an “egregious lack of leadership and incompetence.”
Sen. Vance, R-Ohio, the Republican vice presidential candidate, takes the stage with his wife Usha Vance at a campaign event in Charlotte, North Carolina, Monday, Sept. 23, 2024.
“JD will expose him for these things and, frankly, expose the fact that Tim Walz and Kamala Harris are absolutely wrong for America.”
‘Once Americans get over their folksy behavior and get to know the real Tim Walz, they will realize that their only priority is to appease the radical activists of this party. And that’s not going to sell well.
Meanwhile, Walz has been making his own debate preparations.
He has reportedly been practicing to take on Vance by holding mock sessions with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who is running for president in 2020.
Buttigieg has a polished on-camera personality and doesn’t often stumble during live events.
The two are said to be practicing for the television debate in northern Emmet County on Michigan’s northern peninsula.
Walz was even seen enjoying football on Saturday at Michigan.
He posed with fans at the University of Michigan and University of Minnesota football game.
Buttigieg and the governor will reportedly be in Michigan through Sunday to give Walz time to prepare for Tuesday’s main event.
