She continued: ‘They cut my leg straight away, they spun me around and I landed face down facing backwards.

‘I saw the next set of train wheels rolling towards me, so I moved out of the way and hugged the platform wall.

‘I did a little check and saw that my leg was gone. I thought maybe my foot was broken and I had to take my shoe off.

‘Besides it was really just bumps and bruises, I started shouting for help for the people waiting for the train.

“After a few minutes no one came to help, I thought I had to find some way to get out of these tracks.”

Using all his strength, Fitzgerald managed to climb to the edge of the platform and throw himself to safety.

She continued ‘I kept yelling for help and a conductor came over and I got his attention.

“He came out, I kept screaming, he found a police officer who came to help and called for backup and from there I went to the hospital.”
