While summer is the perfect time to invite friends over for a garden party and fire up the barbecue, your lawn could pay the price.

Luckily, one gardening expert has shared his top tips on how to get your lawn back to its best condition.

Chris Mcllroy, from lawn experts The Grass People, said there are four important steps to follow when it comes to caring for your garden lawn.

And his first tip requires a little effort.

Speaking to The expressMr McIlroy said: ‘It’s not easy to keep turf in top condition during the summer as higher temperatures and lower rainfall take their toll.

‘It’s normal for grass to wilt, turn patchy and brown during heat waves as it enters its dormant state, but all is not lost.

‘The first step I would recommend would be to rake the surface and remove any visibly dead grass.’

‘Next, it’s important to aerate the soil to allow it to breathe, and this can be done by using an aerating tool or a fork to create holes in the soil so water and nutrients can reach deeper.’

The third tip that the gardening expert recommends to horticulturists is to reseed the lawn.

While this step may seem counterintuitive, overseeding your lawn is known to be a great way to grow a healthy, weed-free lawn.

If your garden is currently looking dull, there’s no need to worry as you still have plenty of time to transform your backyard, thanks to advice from lawn expert, Jack Skilling, from Leicestershire, who took to TikTok to share how you can bring your lawn back to life.

Jack shared that, among other steps, a key element in bringing his green space back to life was watering it daily for four weeks.

“The same process is perfectly possible with grass, so in four weeks it could look like this too,” he said.

Watering your lawn every day is an important step because if your lawn soil is allowed to dry out for several days, it can affect your grass’s ability to grow, which could eventually cause it to slow down if not watered.
