A flight attendant has revealed the clothes you should avoid if you want to be safe and comfortable on board.

Andrea Fischbach, a flight attendant for American Airlines, said who uses There are several things to keep in mind, from loose-fitting clothing to avoid increasing the risk of DVT to avoiding clothing with fringes that could put you at risk in the unlikely event of a fire on board.

He also recommended bringing layers to be equipped for the plane’s cold temperatures, noting that scantily clad passengers often end up begging staff to give them blankets.

Here are her tips on how to dress well for a smooth trip.

DON’T: WEAR TIGHT CLOTHING

Andrea advised against “anything that’s really constricting,” telling the fashion publication, “You want to be as comfortable as possible to avoid cramping, swelling, and anything that could affect you later.”

He explained that looser clothing was key to maintaining healthy blood circulation and helped avoid deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which frequent travelers are prone to, especially if they don’t move during the flight.

DVT occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein, usually in the legs, as these are the limbs you are least likely to stretch.

The flight attendant acknowledged that it can be difficult to move when seated, but travelers should pay attention, especially on long journeys.

For optimal safety and comfort, he cautioned against leather pants and suggested stretchier pants, perhaps with an elastic waist.

DO: DRESS FOR UNLIKELY EMERGENCIES

Next, Andrea addressed fire risks in fashion, citing that clothing made of flammable materials poses a high risk to travelers in the event of an emergency.

“This is a bit extreme, but there is always the risk of the plane catching fire with long stripes.”

Another important tip from Andrea was to cover up; Opting for long sleeves can help in the rare case that she has to go down an emergency slide, as they are much more comfortable and show less skin.

DON’T: WEAR HIGH HEELS

Perhaps the most obvious advice was not to wear high heels or even backless sandals, which could make it difficult to evacuate the plane in an emergency.

In addition to being impractical, heels can also damage emergencies and injure other passengers in case they are in a hurry to get off.

Following practical trainers is a much safer option.

DON’T: USE FAT ACCESSORIES

If you’re a jewelry fan, you know how painful it can be when you get stopped by the airport metal detector.

The same goes for shoes, Andrea tells Who What Wear that travelers should not wear shoes with studs and lots of metal decorations.

Some security staff may not let you through if you decide to wear these flashy shoes if any of the decorations look like they could be used as a weapon.

The same goes for elaborate or sharp rings and necklaces, so it’s best to remove your jewelry upon arrival and store it somewhere safe.

DO: USE LAYERS

She said it’s rare on one of her flights that she doesn’t encounter someone half naked, whether in shorts or a sports bra, but she finds that it’s often the same people demanding blankets.

Andrea said it’s best to have extra layers in your carry-on, whether it’s a light cardigan or a heavier hoodie.

And if you’re a classy traveler worried about not looking stylish, he emphasized that it’s possible to look luxurious and comfortable.

She said if you’re conscious of looking too casual, you can’t go wrong with this formula: a blouse and sweater paired with shorts, which often have elastic waistbands.
