Elaborating further, Martel asked, “I assume you had seen it and really knew you wanted to invest that amount of money.”
“We hadn’t seen it. We had seen it from outside! I found out about it the day before the auction,” Doug recalls.
“I definitely wouldn’t recommend not watching it, but…” to which the presenter replied in amazement: “It’s funny, isn’t it, to commit almost a million pounds without watching it.”
The investment was not without its obstacles, as the builder revealed that he eventually discovered some leaks in the roof, although “he would have been hard pressed to bother”.
“And at nearly a million pounds, I think it’s the most flagrant breach of our golden Hammer rule yet,” the presenter added.
Doug and Sophie moved into Victoria’s property while the work was still underway, as the builder had begun to carry it out himself.
The couple wowed viewers with their inspiring story of luck and destiny, revealing that it cost them a total of It will take around £75,000 to renovate it in a year and a half.

The shocking episode comes after Homes Under the Hammer veteran Tommy Walsh, She admitted she is “happy” and “pain free” as she shared a positive health update amid her battle with cancer.
The 67-year-old TV star is currently battling the disease, which is located just below her lung, but revealed it is almost in remission.
The presenter, who previously battled throat cancer, said the cancer is “slowly shrinking and disappearing” as he continues his radiotherapy treatment called SABR.
Stereotactic ablative body radiation therapy (SABR) is the use of multiple small radiation beams to deliver high-dose radiation therapy.
It is tailored to the size of the tumor and preserves as much of the surrounding normal tissue and organs as possible. SABR is most often used for small, well-defined tumors.
For Tommy, the treatment “has worked really well” as he continues to fight and beat cancer.
He said Mirror: ‘I had to do this new treatment called SABR, which is radiation therapy and it targets the exact spot without damaging the organs around it. They used it and it shrank.
‘It’s not anywhere else now. It’s disappearing. Because it’s shrinking, it will shrink to nothing and disappear. Then I’ll just have to have annual check-ups. It’s worked very well for me.
“They thought it was in the lung and I would have been in trouble then. Surgery would have been serious so I didn’t want to do it but we had that as a backup. The SABR treatment has worked and I’m healthy so I haven’t had any pain.”
