A paralyzed coyote named Zelda is making an incredible recovery weeks after she was found on the side of the road covered in mosquitoes.
The coyote’s journey to recovery went viral after a Reddit user shared a video of your health updates taken by the Geaux’s Wild Rehabilitation.
The wildlife rehabilitation center has been caring for the coyote since a woman spotted the animal while walking her dog.
Geaux Wild Rehab had already gone viral for the first time video They posted on the coyote’s TikTok, which currently has more than eight million views.
Since then, Zelda has gone from a coyote potentially on the brink of death to a strong animal who loves to play in less than a month.
A woman discovered a young coyote on the side of the road covered in mosquitoes and brought him to Geaux Wild Rehab on September 16.
The unidentified woman who found Zelda on September 16 immediately called the Louisiana-based nonprofit for help.
Once she spoke to a center employee, the dog walker took the coyote and drove an hour and a half to get her help.
One of the center’s wildlife veterinarians examined Zelda after her arrival.
During the examination, a veterinarian concluded that Zelda was severely dehydrated and emaciated, but had no fever and was willingly taking oral fluids.
Zelda’s paralysis was not permanent and the wildlife rehabilitation center confirmed that her x-rays were perfect before showing an image of the coyote standing.
“All her blood tests came back excellent, slightly anemic, probably due to all the mosquitoes that invaded her when she was found,” wrote Geaux Wild Rehab.
Three days into her stay, Zelda settled into her cage and was able to eat and drink on her own, despite not being able to stand on her own.
The unidentified woman brought Zelda to the center, where she was quickly examined by a veterinary expert.
Zelda arrived at the center severely dehydrated and emaciated. He had no fever and voluntarily took oral fluids after arrival.
Zelda began physical therapy about a week into her stay and enjoyed eating venison, chicken, and mice.
She apparently cooperated during her therapy sessions, and by September 30, Zelda was able to stand on her own.
Zelda’s energy increased dramatically this month and she managed to break more than one of her toys last week, according to Geaux Wild Rehab.
The center confirmed in a video Today Zelda moves around her cage alone, plays with toys and has created ‘night events’.
Some of those events include dragging blankets, chewing on hard objects other than toys, and making an “amazing mess.”
“I’m not complaining at all about all her mess… this makes my heart so happy to see her active and regaining strength,” an expert from the center wrote in the Oct. 9 TikTok video.
The expert added that the center will soon move the now healthy Zelda to an outdoor enclosure.
Several Reddit users have praised the wildlife rehabilitation center for their hard work in caring for Zelda and helping her return to health.
Zelda has regained almost all of her strength and the wildlife rehabilitation center will be moving her to an outdoor enclosure shortly.
Several Reddit users praised Geaux Wild Rehab for the care provided during Zelda’s recovery.
“I wasn’t in the mood to cry today, but I watched this video based entirely on (a) recommendation and I’m so grateful I did. Beautiful animals and beautiful humans,” wrote one Reddit user.
Others insisted the veterinary expert saved Zelda from what one person said could have been a “slow, painful death.”
