Harry Maguire and Eberechi Eze are the two big-name casualties in Lee Carsley’s latest England team.
Elsewhere, Kyle Walker has returned to the England squad for the matches against Greece and Finland.
The Manchester City defender was left out of the previous squad to raise doubts about his international future. But Walker is back at the party, as are Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden, who all missed the previous team through injury.
But Maguire and Eze are absent.
Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has been called up for the first time in seven years after an impressive start to the season.
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been excluded from the England squad by Lee Carsley
The striker has scored three goals in as many games for Ange Postecoglou’s side following his £65m summer move from Bournemouth.
If he plays for the Three Lions for the first time in seven years, it will be the longest gap between England caps since Ian Walker (February 1997 to June 2004).
Tino Livramento and Jarrod Bowen dropped out of Carsley’s first team selection last month.
Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden return to the squad after their absence during the last international break.
Carsley confirmed that Maguire remains firm in his plans for the future, but stressed that he wanted the opportunity to see other centre-backs play.
“Harry is a player I’ve worked with in the past and he was very positive in the conversation we had,” Carsley said.
“It was about talking to him about what my decision was, obviously we’ve got some really good centre-backs who I’m looking forward to seeing play.”
“I’m cautious about bringing in players who have a lot of experience but aren’t going to play much, but Harry has a huge role to play in this team next season.
