Harry Kane will undergo a scan on Monday but is expected to report for England duty this week following an ankle injury.
The England captain arrived in England ahead of his scheduled departure for international duty at St George’s Park on Tuesday, despite feeling unwell after suffering a blow to his left ankle during Bayern Munich’s 5-2 win over Darmstadt on Saturday.
Kane was assessed on Sunday and will have a scan on his left ankle on Monday hoping the injury is not too serious.
Nonetheless, Kane will report for duty as normal this week, although his inclusion level for the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium will depend on how the injury responds to treatment during the week.
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund said: “He will be examined in England. There he trusted the doctors. We are in close coordination on this. Harry will not take any risks.
Harry Kane collided with the post late in Bayern Munich’s win over Darmstadt.
The English striker was immediately replaced by Eric-Maxim Chuopo-Moting.
Harry Kane will still reunite with his England teammates despite his injury
A statement on Bayern’s website read: “The striker is still on international duty with England and will be treated there by the team doctors, in close consultation with the FC Bayern medical department.”
Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel explained after Saturday’s victory: “He collided with the post and twisted his ankle a bit – he had a frozen ankle.” There is still no diagnosis, we have to wait. I hope it’s nothing serious.
England head coach Gareth Southgate hopes to call on his captain over the next 10 days; especially since his team was decimated by injuries.
The matches against Brazil and Belgium are the last two before Southgate selects his Euro 2024 squad.
Kane, the country’s all-time top scorer with 62 goals, scored his 31st Bundesliga goal of the season in the victory against Darmstadt.
