Kyle Bloom, 26 (pictured), went to his ex-girlfriend's house after learning she was in a relationship with his uncle.

A tattooed drug dealer who attacked his uncle in a fit of rage and fury after discovering his relative had been dating his ex-girlfriend has been jailed.

Kyle Bloom, 26, was sentenced to 23 months behind bars when he appeared via video link in the Warrnambool County Court in Victoria on Thursday.

He had already pleaded guilty to charges including aggravated robbery and unlawful assault.

The court heard that in August 2023 Bloom’s sister told him that his ex-girlfriend was in a relationship with his uncle.

The sister told Bloom that she had been “fighting” with her ex and that both she and her uncle had treated her “like shit” by ignoring her when she had visited them. Geelong Advertiser reported.

The court heard Bloom then cycled to his ex-partner’s home in North Geelong, where… He shouted for his uncle to come out.

When the uncle did not come out of the house, Bloom knocked on the front door and forced entry by breaking a window.

Bloom used a meat tenderizer to hit his uncle on the head and told him that it would “hurt him badly.”

The court heard Bloom then asked his uncle: “Why did you treat my sister like shit and me like a goose?”

Bloom also sent a message to his ex-partner, calling her a “bitch” and “shit” before threatening to burn down her house.

On the night of the incident, Bloom had assaulted his uncle, who was high on ice and GHB.

He was also on bail and serving a community corrections order.

The court heard that after Bloom served a month behind bars last May, he “immediately” visited his drug dealer and began using and selling drugs again.

The court heard Bloom’s criminal record began in 2015, when he appeared in juvenile court for stealing a car.

His drug abuse began shortly after he left school.

Bloom told a psychologist he had been jailed six times and said he used acid, ice, cannabis, MDMA, cocaine, opiates and benzodiazepines.

Sentencing, Judge George Georgiou said that while Bloom had underlying mental health issues, he did not believe these played a role in the offending and said the main motive was his drug use.

“You were angry and you were fueled by illicit drugs when you committed the crimes,” he said.

The judge rejected the defense’s request for a combination of prison and CCO.

“Being under the influence of illicit drugs provides no excuse or mitigation,” Judge Georgiou said.

The judge also found that while Bloom’s aggravated robbery had been spontaneous and unplanned, the assault on his uncle was premeditated.

Although no victim impact statements were tendered to the court, the judge said he could infer “from the circumstances that this must have been a terrifying incident”.

Bloom will be eligible for parole once he has served 13 months of his sentence.

The 335 days of pretrial detention he served will be deducted from his sentence, meaning he could be released as early as September.
