BBC Olympics presenter Gabby Logan has been criticised for calling

BBC presenter Gabby Logan has responded after being criticised for saying a rude remark twice in a row on air.

The 51-year-old on Friday called the botched handover in the US 4x100m race a “bungle” as he analysed the event with experts Jessica Ennis-Hill and Michael Johnson.

Logan then used the phrase (which the Cambridge dictionary classifies as rude) again when he tried to get Johnson’s opinion on the race.

The United States was the heavy favorite to take home the gold, but the botched baton handover saw the team quickly drop down the order before eventually being disqualified.

The presenter did not apologise for her comments, despite the incident occurring before the channel’s 9pm time slot.

However, Logan doubled down on his comments today.

She tweeted the words “Good afternoon” alongside a screenshot showing a definition of “shit.”

Saying, ‘I was wrong’ sounds rude, but it isn’t.

‘C–k, in the sense of this term, means ‘to stand conspicuously’, ‘to turn up at the edge’, ‘to bend at an angle’, etc.

‘This is the sense of the early use of the term ‘c**k-up’ in the terms ‘c**k-up one’s ears’, ‘c**k-up one’s nose’.

‘In the 17th and 18th centuries, people were also often advised to ‘screw up’ their hats, eyes and even legs.

The expression ‘c**ka snooker’ also derives from the same meaning of ‘c**k’.

However, social media users were quick to criticise Logan on Friday, with one posting: “Does Gabby Logan have the right to call Team USA’s relay issues a complete fuck-up?”

The United States has not won a medal in the men's 4x100m relay since Athens 2004.

@EgWarren673 added: “Did Gabby Logan just describe the US handover as ‘chaos’ on the BBC or did I hear it wrong?”

In the end it was Canada who took home gold in Paris, while South Africa and Great Britain took silver and bronze respectively.

The United States has failed to win a medal in the race since finishing second at the 2004 Athens Games.
