A French expat was left devastated and “extremely disheartened” after an Australian stood him up on his first date.
Chloe Vic I was excited to start dating again and had been talking to a new guy on Bumble for two weeks before a date was set up for March 23rd.
But the 29-year-old was left waiting alone in a bar for 45 minutes before realizing her date wasn’t the same as her, despite saying she would come.
Speaking to FEMAIL, Chloe said she has been living in Brisbane for two years and was surprised by the dating scene in Australia compared to her country.
She’s been single for six years and decided to get back into the dating game after her father died a few months ago.

The French expat has been living in Brisbane for the past two years and is now traveling to Bali. He was surprised by how “normal” it is for Australian men to ghost women.
“The fact that I had gathered my courage and hope… and then this happened was like a slap in the face,” Chloe said.
This type of behavior is something Chloe is not used to as it “never happens” in France.
While she doesn’t want to generalize, she has found that in her experience dating Australian men, ghosting is “the norm.”
“They often go from hot to cold and back out without explanation, making you feel like you’ve said or done something wrong, wasted your time, or found what they thought was a better option,” he said. .
“Either way, it’s very brutal when communication just stops.”
Chloe added that being jilted has lowered her dating confidence.
‘If the person you’re hoping to date isn’t the slightest bit curious about getting to know you or making plans and not quitting, what’s the point?’ she said.
“I also feel like it has made me a tougher person, as I expect the worst from everyone I try to date.”
This type of behavior is something Chloe is not used to and “never happens” in France.

After returning home from the date, she decided to vent her frustrations by recording a video that was later posted on TikTok.
“So I’ve been stood up and I really need to know if this is something Australian I’m missing,” she said in the clip.
“I’m from France and I’ve never been stood up or cheated on, this isn’t really what kids do there.
“But here, for some reason, it’s very normalized to not show up to appointments and treat people badly. I need to know, am I missing something? It’s crazy to me. Who is raising these men?
The video has since been viewed more than 29,000 times, with other women agreeing that Australian dating culture is “atrocious”.
‘Welcome to Australia. Ghost Town Culture Girl,” one woman wrote.
“Unfortunately, the low-effort lifestyle has also carried over to the dating scene in Australia,” said another.
Someone else said: ‘Yes, it’s normal. I’m sexier than ever and I’ve stopped dating.’
