Four people were injured when Abilene Christian’s bus was involved in a crash following the team’s 52-51 overtime loss at Texas Tech on Saturday night.

According to a statement from the FCS school, one player, two coaches and the bus driver suffered minor injuries in the accident.

“On Saturday evening, a traffic accident occurred involving a bus carrying members of the ACU football team from Lubbock, where ACU had played Texas Tech,” a statement from the school said. “The bus, carrying members of the team and coaching staff, was headed to Abilene when the accident occurred at the intersection of Marsha Sharp Freeway Frontage Road and University Avenue at approximately 11:45 p.m.”

“As a result of the accident, four people sustained minor injuries: one student athlete, two coaches and the bus driver. All were transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock.”

“We are grateful to Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt, his team physician Dr. Michael Pay, and all emergency personnel for their assistance and care.”

ACU was one play away from pulling off the upset of the night on Saturday. The Wildcats kicked the tying field goal with five seconds left and scored a TD in the first overtime after Texas Tech scored a TD and earned the PAT on the first possession. After Isaiah Johnson scored on a one-yard TD, ACU decided to go for a two-point conversion and the win. However, QB Maverick McIvor was sacked on the play.

McIvor, a former Texas Tech player, completed 36 of 51 passes for 506 yards and three touchdowns. ACU trailed 32-14 with 2:55 left in the second quarter before slowly chipping away at Texas Tech’s lead in the second half and tying the game at 42-42 with 4:55 left.
