Tottenham's forgotten striker Clinton Njie has had a disappointing spell in the Premier League

Forgotten Premier League striker Clinton Njie has been unveiled as a new signing for Romanian club Rapid Bucharest in a bizarre video featuring former US President Bill Clinton.

Njie spent a season in north London with Tottenham after joining from Lyon for over £8m in 2015. Unfortunately for all involved, his time in the capital was a failure.

The striker only made eight Premier League appearances for the team, all as a substitute, and failed to score a goal in any of them.

The Cameroon international, now 31, found himself without a club before signing a contract with Rapid, who finished sixth in Romania’s 16-team top flight last season.

Perhaps in an attempt to capitalize on interest in the upcoming US elections in November, the group opted to give its announcement of the striker a rather strange political slant.

The club posted a video on social media that begins with a clip of former US President Bill Clinton delivering an impassioned speech. The footage then cuts to Njie, who, for some reason, says, “I am the real Clinton.”

Rapid fans are then greeted with a montage of the striker scoring for some of his former clubs, including Marseille.

Njie told Rapid’s website: ‘I’m happy to be here. It’s a pleasure for me to join one of the biggest clubs in Romania.

“I saw that the club wanted me to come here and it was an easy decision for me to make. I’m excited to start working at Rapid.”

Despite his unhappy spell with Spurs, Njie has gone on to rack up 44 caps for his national team and helped win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017.
