Former NRL player turned commentator Braith Anasta jokingly referred to himself as ‘Clark Kent’ after restraining a man who tried to escape from a pub following a shocking incident on Friday night.

The NRL 360 co-host was attending a footy finals party on behalf of popular whisky brand Fireball at the Robin Hood Hotel in Sydney’s eastern suburbs when chaos broke out.

In bizarre scenes, a customer appeared to pull a fire extinguisher from the wall at around 8.30pm and began spraying the front bar, covering stunned guests at the event.

Daily Mail Australia’s entertainment reporter Ali Daher was present and witnessed Anasta stopping the man (believed to be in his twenties) as he attempted to flee the scene with one of his friends.

The Bulldogs’ 2004 championship winner was undeterred and grabbed the man by the neck in an exclusive video.

Anasta has since shared a conversation he had with a Fox Sports producer, in which the pub incident is mentioned.

The producer jokes in the text exchange that Anasta doesn’t have time to talk about lunch because he has “a crime to fight.”

Anasta counters: “I’m going to take off the Superman suit and go back to Clark Kent, but don’t tell anyone.”

Clark Kent, of course, is the secret identity of the crime-fighting superhero, Superman.

Anasta told the Daily Mail after the incident that she initially thought the antics might have been part of the night.

“When it happened I was in the bar… I saw the guy grab the fire extinguisher and I thought, ‘He’s sure as hell not going to spray that,'” he said.

‘He sprinkled it on everyone, people were soaked, their clothes were ruined.

“Everyone was shocked and disappointed. It ruined a great night.”

Despite initial reports that Anasta detained the prankster until police arrived, a police spokesperson clarified that the man had “already left the scene” by the time officers arrived.

Other celebrities in attendance included TV personality Dom Littrich of Inspired Unemployed, as well as reality TV stars Jackson Garlick and Dean Wells.

A NSW Police spokesman said on Saturday: ‘At approximately 8.30pm on Friday (13 September 2024), officers attached to the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were called to a hotel on Bronte Road, Waverley, following reports that a man had sprayed the contents of a fire extinguisher inside the business.

‘Police arrived to find the man had already left the premises. The hotel was evacuated, but no injuries were reported.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances of the incident.

‘As enquiries are ongoing, anyone with information is urged to contact Waverley Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.’
