Fatman Scoop’s ex-wife Shanda Freeman took to social media to break her silence following the death of the renowned DJ at age 56.
The veteran radio personality collapsed while performing onstage in Hamden, Connecticut, on Friday night, and stars including Missy Elliott paid tribute to her online shortly after.
On Saturday, Freeman shared several photos with the New York artist, writing, “We made history. We were the FIRST. I’m heartbroken. I love you. Always.”
Shanda and Scoop, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, were together for 13 years before divorcing.
They participated in an MTV reality show called Man & Wife, about their lives as a married couple in the hip-hop community, in 2008.

The cause of death of the creator of the hit Be Faithful is unknown.
Following his sudden collapse, he was given CPR and rushed to the hospital.
The artist’s family announced his death on Saturday, posting a message to Scoop’s 200,000 followers.
“It is with deep sadness and great regret that we share the news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop,” the note begins.
He continued: “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on stage and in life.”
The statement described him as a “world-class artist” and “a father, brother, uncle and friend.”
“He was the laughter of our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage,” it said.
Elsewhere in the tribute, his family shared: “FatMan Scoop was known around the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity.”

In the comments section, rapper Lil Jon wrote: “REST WELL BROTHER,” while Scoop’s frequent collaborator Timbaland appeared speechless and posted a series of emojis.
Missy Elliot also paid tribute, writing: “Prayers for Fatman Scoop’s family to have STRENGTH during this difficult time. Fatman Scoop’s VOICE and energy has contributed to SO MANY songs that made people feel HAPPY and want to dance for over two decades. His IMPACT is HUGE and will NEVER be forgotten.”
Questlove simply wrote: ‘Thanks Scoop!’
And singer Crystal Waters added: “He was one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. He will truly be missed. All my love and prayers to his family.”
