AFL star Bailey Smith has opened up about her life off the football field in a Q&A, and some of her answers are sure to surprise her legion of fans.

The former Western Bulldogs star will join the Geelong Cats for the 2025 season, meaning the football pin-up has a whole new army of fans to endear him to.

So, the 23-year-old sat down with his fashion sponsor Cotton On for a quick Q&A session so those new fans could get to know him, and some of his answers were unexpected, to say the least.

The first question was what his favorite Australian music festival was, and the outgoing AFL star revealed he didn’t have a long list to compare.

“I’ve only been to one festival, so I’ll say it’s the best,” he said.

“I was BTV when I was 18.”

The Beyond the Valley Festival (BTV) is a multi-day music and arts festival held annually in Victoria.

The 2024 event featured big names in the modern music industry such as FISHER, Ice Spice and Chase & Status.

The BTV 2019 that Bailey attended featured Australian DJ RÜFÜS DU SOL and hip-hop star Tyler, The Creator.

Bailey was also asked who she preferred, international superstar Taylor Swift or Grammy Award-winning English singer-songwriter Charli XCX.

To the horror of modern music fans, Bailey revealed that she had no idea who Charli XCX is.

‘Who is Charli XCX?’ asked.

“I swear on my life I don’t know who he is.”

When asked that Charli XCX is responsible for the hit song Brat Summer, Smith quickly made her decision and said, “Taylor Swift.”

The interviewer also asked if Smith preferred a day at the beach or at the pool.

“For me personally, the beach,” Smith said.

Cats or dogs?

‘What do we mean here? “I can’t choose,” he said.

‘It’s like having two children, you can’t choose a favorite. I love my dog.’

Thongs or slippers?

“Slippers,” he replied.

Smith previously said Geelong’s work-life balance, combined with the people at the club, were some of the big things that convinced him to become a Cat.

Despite being an outgoing young celebrity, fans will be surprised to learn that Smith knows little about modern music.

Smith was traded from the Western Bulldogs to Geelong as part of a four-club deal in the final minutes of the AFL trade period.

The 23-year-old missed all of 2024 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and told the Dogs of his desire to be traded in September.

‘The future is exciting. “It’s a successful club,” Smith said at the time.

“And the way they play football, but the most important thing is the life and the balance they have and the people who raise Geelong, that’s what attracted me there the most.

“Football is always amazing, and I guess it’s number one for a lot of people.

But they are more the type of people who live within four walls.

“It is a privilege to be able to meet them and I look forward to adding to what is already an exciting list.”
