“It was tough, a really tough day for you, but not so tough for me,” Matt joked. “It was still tough because there was a genuine connection.”
“I think it’s an intense situation for all parties. Having to do that and literally be there in front of the camera knowing that I’m about to hurt someone that I care about was a bitch.”
Acknowledging Abbie’s suffering, she continued: “It was a shitty or even shittier experience for you. But it wasn’t a cakewalk for me.”
Matt went on to criticize the final edit of their blossoming romance on The Bachelor while he and Abbie criticized her portrayal as the show’s “villain.”
“It was like you were this mastermind that was being suggested, that you were playing me, that you were playing the game, it was a weird narrative that someone had legs to,” she said of Abbie’s edit.

Reuniting for a two-part episode of Abbie’s podcast It’s A Lot, Matt, 36, admitted it was “really hard” as he recounted how there was a “genuine” connection between them.
“If I was that smart, you’d be my friends, you all hate me,” Abbie joked about her co-stars on the show. “But then we got to the finals and you guys didn’t pick me, and that’s okay.”
Although their romance didn’t work out on the show, Matt and Abbie reunited about six months later when the show aired and became friends.
Abbie admitted she was very “confused” by their breakup and initially thought Matt “hated” her, before clearing the air.
“So after the show… Matt leaves me, sad, sad, sad. I think six months later, after the finale aired, you responded to the message I sent you,” she shared.
“It wasn’t a text saying, ‘Hey Matt, let’s hang out and kiss,’ it was a text saying, ‘What happened? ‘ Because I was so confused.”
Matt responded that he was grateful that Abbie had decided to reconnect, saying, “As the person who was dumped, it’s your decision, you’re the one who should decide.”
“Well, when we first caught up, there were a lot of things we could talk about… one of the first things you asked me was if you thought I hated you,” she continued.
“I hate that you had to carry around that idea that there was some kind of, you know, malice or hatred, or animosity on my part, that was just never the case.”
