Police have launched an investigation after a man was left with a broken jaw following embarrassing scenes at a local football match.

Emergency services were called to Wentworth Park Oval in Glebe, New South Wales, around 7.30pm on Monday after a 38-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by two rival male players during an OzTag game.

Footage of the alleged incident shows both attackers hitting the man at the same time from different angles. They then kicked him while he was on the ground.

The two men fled the scene before police arrived.

The alleged victim was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

He is in stable condition and was released with a broken jaw, according to Chris O’Keefe on 2GB.

Bill Harrigan, former NRL referee and OzTag boss, said: “Disgusting.” I had to replay it a couple of times because it’s horrible. It’s one of the worst I’ve ever seen.

‘Shameful. That’s the only way to say it.

“I’ve spoken to the referee, I’ve spoken to the licensee of Wentworth Park Oz Tag, I’ve spoken to the police today. I’ve also spoken to the victim. I was shocked when he answered the phone, he told me exactly what happened, it’s just a set of horrible circumstances.

‘So what’s going to happen? The police are investigating now, detectives have taken over. I’m glad someone recorded a video so we can do something about it. “The Australian Oz Tag will never allow those players to play again.”

It has also been alleged that the thug who kicked the man as he finished was armed with a knife.

“That is the accusation that has been made,” Harrigan confirmed. “Apparently, that player was taunting some of the people there saying that he had a knife and ‘do you want some?’

“Regardless of what happens with the police investigation, those guys won’t be playing Oz Tag again.”
