A man has been charged with a number of charges after allegedly driving drunk and losing control of his pickup truck, which crashed into another car and injured a six-year-old girl before bursting into flames.
The 29-year-old is accused of spinning his Ford Falcon pickup truck on Stapylton Jacobs Well Road in Gilberton on the northern Gold Coast at 10pm on Friday before losing control of his vehicle.
This caused the van to collide with a Holden Commodore, which was driven by a 30-year-old man with a six-year-old girl as a passenger.
The driver of the Commodore was uninjured while the girl suffered minor injuries.
Although the truck caught fire, the driver was not injured.
He has been charged with one charge each of the following: driving with an alcohol level above the average limit (0.104), dangerous driving of a vehicle, driving without a licence, driving an unregistered vehicle and stealing (fuel).
The man is due to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
A man has been charged with alleged drunken drug dealing in Gilberton, on the Gold Coast’s far north.
The man has been charged with an average blood alcohol limit (0.104), dangerous driving of a vehicle, driving without a licence, driving an unregistered vehicle and theft (of fuel).
Anti-driving laws were introduced in Queensland last year to crack down on dangerous driving.
Under those laws, participating in any hooning event, from illegal street racing to vehicle burning, is a criminal offense.
This even includes encouraging others to view or participate in such activities.
